A valid visa is mandatory for all travelers visiting Bhutan. Please note that Bhutan tourist visas are not issued by foreign embassies or diplomatic missions abroad. Instead, all visas are processed within Bhutan through licensed local tour operators, in conjunction with a confirmed tour booking.

How Bhutan Tourist Visas Are Issued
Bhutan operates a centralized visa system. Tourist visas are processed only through a registered Bhutanese tour operator and are approved by the relevant authorities in Bhutan. Independent visa applications or embassy-issued visas are not permitted.
Once your tour itinerary is confirmed and full tour payment is received, we will submit your visa application directly to the Bhutan immigration authorities.
Documents Required for Bhutan Visa Application
To apply for your Bhutan tourist visa, we will require the following documents from you:
- A clear scanned copy of your passport (valid for at least six months)
- A recent passport-size photograph
- Confirmed travel dates
- Personal details as per passport information
Once these documents are submitted, we take care of the rest.
Visa Fees and Sustainable Development Fee (SDF)
The Bhutan visa process includes the following mandatory charges:
- Visa Application Fee: USD 40 (one-time, non-refundable)
- Sustainable Development Fee (SDF): USD 100 per person per night (adult rate)
Concessional rates apply for children
The SDF supports Bhutan’s national development, healthcare, education, and environmental conservation efforts.
Visa Processing Time
After submission, Bhutan visa applications are typically processed within five working days, subject to approval by immigration authorities. Visa clearance is issued electronically and stamped upon arrival in Bhutan.
Visa Application for Indian, Bangladeshi & Maldivian Nationals
- Indian citizens require an entry permit, not a visa
- Permits can be arranged in advance or on arrival, though advance processing is recommended
- Bangladeshi and Maldivian citizens require a visa, but follow a simplified application process
